About the project
BlenderGPT6 is an MIT-licensed Blender add-on that connects natural-language requests to structured Blender tools. It can inspect scenes, create and edit meshes, set up materials and lighting, arrange cameras, animate objects, and configure rendering. Version 0.8.0 supports GPT-6 Astra, Sol, and Luna, plus the GPT-5.6 family. Features include optional viewport image context, multi-step agent workflows, cancellation, usage reporting, undo checkpoints, and controls for destructive operations. Requires Blender 5.2 or newer and your own OpenAI API key. The add-on source is free, but OpenAI API usage is billed separately. Prompts and selected scene or viewport context are sent to OpenAI when used. Review generated changes and keep backups of important Blender files.
How it was built
Python Blender extension using the OpenAI Responses API with structured Blender tools. Network/model work runs outside the main UI execution path, while Blender data changes run on Blender’s main thread. The repository includes tool/schema validation and Blender animation runtime tests.
Build details are provided by the creator.
